Nudgee College Awarded Australian Boarding School of the Year

St Joseph’s Nudgee College has recently won the 2024 Australian Education Awards for the Australian Boarding School of the Year.

This award sponsored by the Australian Boarding Schools Association recognises the most outstanding boarding school in Australia in the 2024 academic year. 

The category considers consistently high standards of teaching and learning, academic and other achievements during the 2024 school year, rigorous professional learning to improve teaching and curriculum delivery, strong communication links with students, parents, teachers and the wider community, demonstrated commitment to innovation and continuous improvement and provision of a supportive home environment focused on student wellbeing. 

Dean of Boarding, Mr Casey Brealy said "we are very proud and incredibly humbled to win Australian Boarding School of the Year. This is a wonderful acknowledgement of our outstanding community. We thank everyone who has made this possible - our boarders, our staff and the parents who trust us to care for their children." 

Principal of St Joseph’s Nudgee College, Mr Scott Thomson, said, "Winning this prestigious award is not only humbling but testament to the dedication, hard work and unwavering commitment of all our staff who ensure our boarders are supported, cared for and have every opportunity to thrive.” 

More than 1,700 young men from Years 5 to 12 call St Joseph’s Nudgee College their school. For 320 of these students, who hail anywhere from regional Queensland, rural NSW to Papua New Guinea and back, it is also their home as boarders. 

With one of the most comprehensive pastoral care systems in the Australian boarding community, the team work hard to ensure young men are supported from the day they move into the Bathersby Boarding Village, to the day they embark on their next life journey.

The annual Australian Education Awards, run by The Educator, is the leading independent awards event in the K-12 education sector. The awards showcase the top-performing schools, principals, department heads and teachers for their outstanding achievements and transformative work that makes a profound difference to the lives of young people across Australia. 

The 2024 awards winners were announced and celebrated in August 2024.
