The College ​is calling for applications for the position of 1st VIII Rowing Coach. If successful, you will be responsible for the ongoing leadership and development of a highly successful 1st VIII program.  Do you have the capacity to be a leader in our rowing community, assist in developing other coaches within the wider rowing program and continue to build on our recent successes?

  • Most successful GPS Rowing school since joining the competition in 1999
  • 7 current Old Boys representing Australia, with a program focus on supporting boys on the representative pathway

Role
The 1st VIII coach will work under the leadership of the Rowing Director. This collaborative relationship helps to provide leadership, management and direction for the 1st VIII program and support for the wider Nudgee College Rowing program. You will be responsible for nurturing and maintaining a rowing program that enables the crew to be highly competitive and supports the holistic education and well being of the students involved.  While you will be responsible for the leadership, management and coordination of the 1st VIII program, you will be strongly supported by the Rowing Director, Director of Sport, the Boatshed Manager, the Parent Rowing Support Group and the College hierarchy in achieving the goals of the Nudgee Rowing Program.

Key Responsibilities
Coaching

  • Implement the direction and goals for the College 1st VIII program.
  • Attend all water and ergo sessions for the 1st VIII and ensure safety standards relevant to rowing. Attend gym and cross-training sessions as appropriate.
  • Work with the Rowing Director and Head of Rowing Strength and Conditioning to establish, maintain and manage training periodisation, schedules and benchmarking for the 1st VIII season.
  • Attend selected on-water sessions to support rowers on the development pathway to the 1st VIII, and work with coaches of these crews to maximise athlete development.

Management

  • Support the Rowing Director with planning, organisation and execution of regattas, clinics, camps and tours, including attending all events as appropriate or directed.
  • Work with the Rowing Director to establish a successful development pathway for rowers to the 1st VIII.
  • Liaise with the Rowing Director to plan the budget for the 1st VIII program.

Pastoral

  • Demonstrate ability to inspire students to participate to their fullest potential in Rowing and foster students’ holistic growth (including lifestyle and self-discipline).
  • Be visible to the student body and develop strong relationships with students, in order to drive engagement in rowing.

Qualifications and Experience
To be successful in the role, applicants must possess:

  • Demonstrated experience and success working at an equivalent or higher level, within a rowing program.
  • Level 2 rowing coaching accreditation, or demonstrated ability to obtain.
  • Understand how sport is used to drive the education and personal development of young men.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in leadership, of students and adults, planning and coordination.
  • Demonstrated excellence in working in collaboration with others in a team.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in improving other coaches' ability.
  • Preferably an accomplished teacher or significant school based coaching experience.

Tenure
Teachers will be offered a full time contract, combining a reduced teaching load (particularly in season) and coaching.

Non teachers will be offered a part time coaching contract.
