St Joseph’s Nudgee College strives to bring out the very best in boys and is committed to improving the educational outcomes of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Formalised in 1993, the Indigenous Education Program supports students from urban, rural and remote communities across Australia. 

The Indigenous Education Program is funded through Nudgee College, private donations, Abstudy, Western Cape Communities Coordinating Committee (WCCCA) and the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF). Entry and funding are also means-tested through ATO assessments or Income Summary statements.

Key standards for Indigenous Education Program

  • Entry in Year 7 and committed to completing Year 12 as a boarding student
  • An Indigenous Australian - certificate of Aboriginality or Torres Strait Islander official paperwork
  • Residential address is more than 200 kilometres away from Nudgee College
  • Unable to consider boarding at Nudgee College due to financial reasons 
  • Enthusiastic about attending boarding school
  • Minimum a “C” grade for overall academic performance and future potential evidence based on school reports
  • Proven diligence and application in academic studies
  • Minimum of 80% attendance
  • Achievement and involvement in other areas of school life (for example, performing arts, visual arts, sports, music, debating and other relevant areas)
  • A demonstrated sense of community
  • Leadership capacity
  • Community reference letter
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
